1. Determine the Key specie which will be used in determining the level of utilization
2. Find the card which has the table for that specie and insert it into the gauge so that the information for the grass shows through the window.
3. Turn the circular dial to the average ungrazed height that you had found in your sampling effort.
4. For each observation of grazed plants, find the remaining stubble height on the circumference of the circular dial.
5. Read across to the utilization percentage in the window. For example, if you are finding the utilization percentage for a plant which has a 1" grazed height in a population which has a 10" average height of ungrazed plants, the utilization percentage would be approximately 38%
